Most cards have a limited number of days after they charge you in which you can ask for the refund (usually from 60 to 90 days). This option is mostly used to buying arline tickets (which are a high price ticket item), given the number of folding arlines since deregulation started, but can be used with ANY supplier. The credit card company will take the loss. I've done it myself. And it is not even a big hassle.
