ProFILEs do work with ProDOS-8 and GS/OS (all >versions); no extra driver is needed because one is generated at boot >time. There were both 5MB and 10MB models of the ProFILE. We've had both a 10meg and a 5meg ProFile running simultaneously off one ROM 01 GS with perfect reliability for about a year so far. The Interface Card must have ROM Rev. B (1984) and needs a particular jumper installed on the back (anti-IC) side. Our two 5meg ProFiles have PN A9M0005; the 10meg has PN A9M0100. Check the rear plate on yours. As Doug says, standard utilities (Finder, CopyIIplus, etc.) can do the regular formatting just dandy, but if you want/need to low-level format your ProFile (say to change the interleave), the only such utility that we've ever seen runs ONLY on an Apple /// (yes, THREE). Our local dealer keeps a /// on hand specifically for this. ProFiles need some extra warmup time first thing in the morning, so expect to have to turn yours on about five minutes before you power the CPU. -- | Ralph P Carpenter | InterNet: Ralpho@acc.fau.edu | Blake's 7: | | Sr Programmer/Analyst | CarpentR@SerVax.Bitnet | The | | Florida Atlantic Univ | Ci$: 74015,644 GEnie: Ralpho | Motion | | at Boca Raton | SoBell: 407/367-2616 | Picture |
