This example assumes that you've connected the serial cable both to your calculator and to the modem port in the Macintosh. Any command sent to the HP 48 needs to be in upper case (CAPS). The calculator's stack will be displayed on the computer's display after each REMOTE HOST command. Calculator Keystrokes: 1. [right shift][I/O] Puts the HP 48 in Server mode. Macintosh Instructions: 1. Double-click the Kermit icon. 2. Select Communications from the Settings menu. 3. Select 9600 baud. 4. Select Host from the Remote menu. 5. Type the COMMAND or the data you wish to send. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary to send additional information. 7. To quit, press [ATTN] on the HP 48 and select Quit from the File menu on the Macintosh. For example: Complete the first 4 steps listed above. Runs Kermit protocol and prepares to send information. Type 'X^3-4*X^2+X-10' Sends equation to HP 48 stack. Repeat step 4 and type 'X' Sends the variable X. Repeat step 4 and type 10 Sends the number 10. Repeat step 4 and type ROOT Sends the ROOT command. The calculated root of the equation is returned to the computer's display (4.30691319972). Complete step 7 to quit.
