After getting the motherboard replaced on my SE, I found out it was all a software problem. ;-(. Zapping the PRAM had no effect - the ports consistantly gave an error 95 (or was it 94?). I'd been using Farallon's "Traffic Watch" software on our net, and it leaves the ports dirty when you quit. After following up with Farallon, they gave me a program called "ResetPorts", and that did the trick. They also updated the version of Traffic Watch I was using, and that seemed to help the port problem. Now the ports aren't working again, and ResetPorts doesn't help. I don't know _what_ the cause is this time - but I'm upgrading to an SE30, so it'll soon be Apple's problem. ;^) In summary, I'd exhaust all software solutions before you take the *expensive* plunge of hardware repair (replacement).
