I like this idea. I, too, have problems with hierarchical menus in many situations. However, in the case of the 7.0 Apple Menu, I would trade the "inconvenience" of the hierarchical menu for better organization. The best part is, I have the option to make that choice, while other who want a "flat" menu can opt for that. I would simply have it place any folders in the Apple Menu Folder in the menu as hierarchical choices, which allow the user to select one of the items in that folder. This would allow me to group things by type (applications, DAs, etc.), or perhaps functionally, or any other way that I might like.
