i am working on developing instructional software (meaning that it
has to be as SIMPLE for the USER as possible and that as much of 
shenanigans described below as possible has to be INVISIBLE to the
user)

anyway, the deal is i will be running 2 applications, both
commercial packages not yet chosen ... one is A CAD package that
will probably be a DOS only application, the other will be a
HYPERTEXT-like package that could run either as a DOS application
or under WINDOWS ...

i want to allow the user to switch easily and rapidly between them.
ideally i'd want the 2nd application (the HYPERTEXT) to be able to
receive input from the first to know where to jump to ... 
the CAD package will (by necessity) have an upper level programming
capability that can work with variables and user responses ... it will
also be able to shell to DOS easily ... but it will probably take up
almost all of the DOS 640K by itself.

i am looking for comments about an environment that will allow this.
(if there are any comments about CAD or HYPERTEXT preferences i would
be interested in them too, but my needs there are more personally dictated)
