Is the idxtex program that comes on the DECUS tape (August '89) the same
as the makeindex program I see discussed in this group and in TeX digest?

If so, is there interest in a program which is more flexible in handling
(La)TeX control sequences in the index entries themselves, does
better sorting, and attempts to combine similar entries into a single
entry with subtopics?

If not, is the makeindex program better in these areas, and will it be
in the next DECUS TeX Collection?
