I have not seen the symptoms described on a IIfx but I believe this will cure
them:

1) Boot off of 6.0.5 floppy
2) Dispose of finder and system file from HD
3) finder-copy the finder and system files from the floppy to the HD
4) Reboot
5) (If desired) Use the "custom" button in the installer program to install
   any features (printing, AppleShare, etc.) not already installed. Don't
   forget, you will have a fairly minimal set of fonts and DAs.

I'm not sure why this happens, and I haven't bothered to check, since this
cure generally works. I wonder, though, if the new installer doesn't always
write the boot blocks correctly?
