We had the same problem here and setting TZ fixed ours too.
Another problem we still have, because we run news, is that uuxqt gives
up unbatching our news because it runs out of pipes.  We upped the
pipe count in the kernel yet it still occurs.  Anyone else out there
notice this problem?
