If you were using the cursor keys on the numeric pad did you have the scroll lock on? Don't know about the cursor but the function keys require scroll lock. While on the subject of the terminal emulation, it took me some time to figure how to set up a function key so that it would send an escape key. Finally got that to work also. The sequence to represent an escape character is ":[". That's a karet (upper case 6 on an extended keyboard) followed by a left square bracket in case our, or another system, does an unexpected translation.
