I run X11r4 on my Sparcstation 1. A few days ago, it broke, such that X ignores all keyboard input. The mouse works fine, and I can focus on a window just as always. I can also input text by clicking on it, as usual. It's as if I had no keyboard. Of course, the keyboard works fine when I'm using the Sparc as a plain old terminal. It only dies when I use the X server. X clients on my machine work fine when invoked from other servers. You will no doubt ask "What were you doing when it broke?" and the sad truth is, I don't remember. I was *not* writing X code. I am not an X hacker, I just want to use it for running e.g. emacs and xterm and such. And I have tried rebooting and power-cycling the machine. Clues that may be helpful: I ran xev, and it does not see any keyboard activity, either. This failure occurs with both twm and uwm, and also on Sunview (when I type any character I get an error message ws_read_indev length error 1). I have no idea what the sunview error message means. I would be grateful for advice on how to debug or fix this. Please reply by email, to jrd@media-lab.media.mit.edu. Thanks. -- Internet: jrd@media-lab.media.mit.edu Phone: (617)-253-0314 USMail: E15-325, MIT, Cambridge, MA 02139
