I have been using 4DOS for a couple of months and like it very
much. Here is a blurb I sent a while back to DOS users on our
local network:

	Some of you might like to take a look at the
4DOS command interpreter shell (complete replacement for
DOS's COMMAND.COM) available for DOS machines. I tried
it this weekend and was quite impressed.
	Features of 4DOS include:

		* Filename completion built-in
		* Command history (recall)
		* Nice alias facility
		* Directory stack (pushdir, popdir, and dirs)
		* Better wildcards than DOS

	With all these features, I was able to discard most of
my TSR's (FILEC, CED, PUSHDIR) and in the process I wound up
with 15K more RAM than before.
	The only drawback (for DOS 3.3 users) I have found in
4DOS is the lack of the APPEND command allowing search by applications
for data and overlay files. This is not a big deal however since you
can get around it by shelling to DOS whenever needed, i.e.:

	APPEND => C:\COMMAND.COM /C APPEND

I found this to work fast and efficiently in several batch files
in which I require the APPEND command.
	Since TSR conflicts are frequently a source of annoyance
in some DOS applications, I am happy with the need for
fewer. And I like the 15K more RAM that 4DOS leaves me.
	Try it, you might like it. 4DOS is available from Simtel
PD1:<MSDOS.SYSUTL> 4DOS30.ZIP. Or I could bring it in on a disk.
