I currently have a project that requires the development of routines
which will allow me to build packed decimal and integer fields ala IBM
COBOL comp-level storage items.  These fields would then be placed
within a EBCDIC-converted record for usage by a mainframe-based
application.

Does anyone have any routines that manipulate or build these types of
fields, or does anyone have any pointers to algorithms which I may use
to build them?  Any help would be appreciated.  Please respond by
email.
