Well, that is a big catch (which I wasn't even aware of), and is undoubtledly the big drawback to the .US domain, but I can think of others: 1) You are restricted to the geographical format of address, site.city.state.US. This is fine if your enterprise exists in only one city, and you NEVER intend to move. 2) You are NOT allowed to create subdomains! This is a ridiculous restriction. There is no reason for it other than the fact that the domain admin wants it that way, because creating a subdomain would have NO impact to the domain admin. All things being equal, I would have gone with mccall.us rather than mccall.com, because (a) it pleases my sense of esthetics, since the rest of the world forms addresses this way, and (b) I heard a rumor a long time ago that this is the format of address being favored by OSI networks, and I thought it might help in some distant future transition. I even had one prospective MX forwarder agree to MX for me on the condition that I NOT register in the .US domain. I consider it unfortunate that what should be the top level domain for this country was given to someone who has chosen to run it in a manner inconsistent with all other top level domains. -- Terry Poot The McCall Pattern Company (uucp: ...!rutgers!ksuvax1!mccall!tp) 615 McCall Road (800)255-2762, in KS (913)776-4041 Manhattan, KS 66502, USA
