Not necessarily true. The thing is that your forwarder must know how to get mail directly to you (i.e., you can't have an MX that points to another MX record). One of my MX forwarders (VAX.CS.PITT.EDU) is two UUCP hops away, but it knows how to route mail to me through the intermediate UUCP hop.
