Mostly I get "Cannot find directory" messages. Compaq's DOS 3.31 will work on other machines. A long time ago, I tried it on my generic (DTK motherboard, WD disk controller) AT compatible, and it worked flawlessly. I've also seen it run on Everex 286 and 386 machines. I don't know about the later versions, but the older Norton Utilities would fail because they were not written to handle disks larger than 32MB. I don't remember the details, but it had something to do with larger FATs and directories.
