I believe you may be confusing two different types of  "icons".

1) the "bar"-icon which appears as the letter "H" -- these are specific
characters in a specific font (presumably it is the "H" characters -- I
believe the font should be icon12.snf).  Check to make sure all the
fonts were "built" and installed properly, including the
creation/modification of the fonts.dir and fonts.alias files that should
be in your X11fonts directory.


2) $ANDREWDIR/lib/xicons -- these are bitmaps for use with various X
window managers such that when an application is iconified you can use
something other than the default iconic symbol for it.
