on the standard noisetracker disks (without any preset defaults like for 
NT 1.0), the program should be on a disk Called ST-00 , 
on the same disk : have 2 subdirs called MODULES and SONGS ,
you put in them the modules and the songs (respectively) of the songs . 
(modules = songs + all the data instruments). 

ST-01 to ST-... : the disks with the instruments on them .
If you have a module, and if you havent played with the prefs (NT 1.2, ST 2.xx)
put it in the MODULES subdir . Only then will you be able to play it. 

What you mean to tell me that you exited these programs by rebooting ? 
try to move the mouse to the top left corner and press both mouse button  ...

Bored with the same old grey color ? try caps/lock key .
