There is a bug in the NetHack 3.0pl8 binaries. The code for checking
for the presence of a monochrome monitor doesn't work, and in fact
produces a bus error. The workaround is to set the "nocolor" flag
explicitly in the "nethack.cnf" file if you're running NetHack on
a monochrome monitor. I'll be sending out pl9 binaries this weekend
that will have this bug fixed.
