Not enough tension from the bail springs.  You can increase the
tension with a  couple of rubber bands wrapped around the bail and
secured to the read printer  cover by paper clips.  This is known as
the "Mickey Mouse" solution.

I went to Midwest Systems (sorry, don't have the number handy) & got a VR241
(the color model) about a year ago for $150.00, which was a pretty
good deal, since DEC wanted $90 to fix my VR201 (mono)!

Midwest Systems.  Are they local to Colorado Springs, or. . .?
