Please can anyone tell me if there is a gate-way into the HP-DESK >network via uucp/usenet? [...] Yes, there is. Simply send your mail to ...!hplabs!hpXXXX.desk.hp.com!persons_name%YY where XXXX is the HPDESK location code and YY is the sublocation code. hplabs HPDESK gateway will take care of the rest. In the other direction, send HPDESK stuff to username (system.uucp) /HP1900/ux and hplabs will do its best to find a useable route to your UNIX machine once the mail has reached it at location 1900. By the way, make sure to use the full name of the person you are sending to separated by underscores when going into the gateway from UNIX land. HP is a large company and may people have similar first and/or last names (I should know, there's a Markus Otto in Stuttgart who used to get my HPDESK mail all the time!) and an ambiguous reference may be mis-routed. Also, replce 'username' with the UNIX user login name on the UNIX box you are trying to reach and be sure to ignore the 'Unknown name but location and sublocation OK' warning that HPDESK will generate - it accepts the message and routes it correctly anyway. Replace 'system.uucp' with your UNIX system name and domain (or uucp if that's all you have (like me)). Good luck reaching your friends at HP. -- Mark C.
