I've been stuck in a couple of spots in Quarterstaff for a while--

(1) How do I get into the secret room north of the L-corridor?  I can tell that
there's a room there (mostly by looking closely at the map), but I can't find a
way to trigger any secret doors.

(2) How does the staff of Life work?  I tried to bribe the male dwarf warrior
with it, then had to defend myself when the ungrateful wretch attacked me;  I
know what it _does_ now (I think I killed him about 4 times before I restored a
previous game), but I can't seem to get the staff to work for any members of my
party.

I'd prefer vague hints to outright spoilers-- thanks in advance!
