I have seen an Imagewriter II behave similarly when I print from within
VersaTerm Pro. Never had a problem with doing the same thing to an old
Imagewriter I. I suspect that this sort of problem may be due to a software
package using its own print driver rather than Apple's but this is merely
speculation on my part.
