Take a look at Adobe PhotoShop 1.0.  It's amazing what a well written
program can do in only *two* megabytes (I'm not flaming any of the
other programs mentioned, just pointing out that you greyscale/color
doesn't necessarily mean memory hog).

And if System 8.0 requires 8 megs I'm gonna have somebody's head
on a platter.  :)
