(Usually, when this occurs I am trying to use the IIci as a server, with TOPS or InBox.) It seems to have only begun this behavior recently (since I upgraded from TOPS 2.0 to TOPS 3.0) with no other significant changes I can think of, except that I greatly increased the system heap recently, too. When the bars disappear, I've only been able to recover by restarting with the restart switch. Has anyone else seen such behavior (the desktop and disk icons remain, but the menus disappear) and have you figured out the cause and solution? Steve Goldfield College of Engineering UC Berkeley
