You need to boot off the optical, then fire up a Shell or Terminal (or stuart) or whatever... type localhost> mount /dev/sd0a /foo You should then see your hard drive underneath directory /foo. As far as your booting from the hard drive is concerned, see your local NeXT guru. You'll probably have to get some files reinstalled (system stuff) but your personal data should be intact.
