My "purpose in life", is to help Strand's application base to grow. To this end, I am involved in two related research projects. The first project demonstrates the utility of Strand for the large signal processing applications common in the oil industry. We currently have much of the infrastructure in place for basic seismic data manipulation. The next step is to use this structure as a platform for Strand application research. We are currently implementing multidimension FFT and Normal Moveout correction/stacking algorithms. The second project is more general. I am interested in building a library of Mathematics routines in Strand. This is actually an extension of my seismic signal processing work. I am beginning by implementing some of the LAPACK routines. The key is to view the routines as members of a library - not as isolated entities. Therefore, I require each routine to start and finish with distributed data strucutures. I am seeking collaborators within the Strand community to get involved with this work. The goal is to learn about Strand by implementing existing algorithms and to extend our knowlege of mathematical programming by developing new ones. Please contact me directly if you are interested in getting involved or have any comments about this work. I am particularly interested in hearing of any other projects of this sort that may be going on. Thank you. Tim mattson tim%ssti@uunit.uu.net
