This is a known problem, caused because the MIT X11R4 sample server is much more careful with the X protocol than was the X11R3 sample server or the DEC servers. Many MIT X11R3 clients also broke because of this. If you have source code, the fix is a one-liner. Fixed binaries will be shipped in one of the next releases.
