While SunOS prior to 4.1 doesn't age passwords (regardless of whether you installed any of the S5 stuff or not, and regardless of whether you're using the S5 environment or not), SunOS 4.1 does permit you to age passwords (regardless of whether you installed any of the S5 stuff or not, and regardless of whether you're using the S5 environment or not). I don't know if anything was done to mesh this better with YP or not....
