Well, this problem is very complicated, but part of the answer is that the
application writer isn't making things easy for you.  There's never any
reason for an app-defaults file to specify resources with an application class
or name as the first component; the app-defaults file will only be used for
this one application, so what's the point?  And doing so makes things harder
for you, the customizing user.
