What is the difference between these two encodings? More generally, could someone explain the various encoding schemes used for Japanese characters? What is the difference in encoding between a character set which has only katakana vs. one with all the kanas and all the kanji? What is JIS v. shift-JIS? What else is used? References would be appriciated. Doug Tomm Oracle Corp. dtomm@oracle.com 415-598-4494 Nama mugi, nama gome, nama tamago.
