I find that converting a gif file to sun raster format, and then compressing
it with compress usually gives a smaller file. Also, lharc often works better
than compress, and can even compress .gif files sometimes, but takes a whole lot longer.

in comp.sources.misc, I tried it on sun raster files, but I guess it'll only work on
24-bit files.
