I've used the Trailblazer's built-in compression to feed batched but
uncompressed news when my overloaded CPU couldn't take on any more
compression itself.  It certainly works but I didn't run any measured
tests to see what the improvement (if any) was.

The best arrangement if for an answering modem to always set S110=1
(enable compression if other end agrees) and let the caller decide
whether to use compression or not.
