Files 3 and 4 are fine. I.e., if I say something like mt -f /dev/nrst0 fsf 3 tar tvbf /dev/nrst0 then file 4 lists fine. Ditto with file 3. Attempting to list the contents of File 1 and 2 gives "tar: premature EOF". I wonder why. All within a day of taking the backup. It was a brand new SONY tape. Could it be owing to mishandling/screwups by me?
