For better or worse, this is what it all boils down to. X.400 is seen as a big advantage over SMTP because there are some very polished X.400 applications out there, while the SMTP world is stuck with university style hacks. Similarly, IP will be very hard to get rid of because of things like SUN NFS, which haven't been implemented on an ISO stack yet. It isn't really a battle of protocols, except down here in the trenches. It's really a battle waged on the basis of user perception of applications. BillW -------
