I have MS-DOS v2.11 and Kermit-80 but have no idea how to connect them to a BBS to d/l files. I'm using the Rainbow as a terminal instead of running through a comm. program. If anyone can help me with basic intsructions for downloading Rainbow files or suggest any comm.programs that might get me started PLEASE leave me a message or give me a call collect 404-396-5746 anytime except 5pm-9pm. I'm also in search of any Rainbow users or users groups in the Atlanta area because AT&T already has a hitman on me for L/D calls. Any help would ge greatly appreciated!! Carl, if you had BOTHERED to READ gary's ENTIRE message, he stated that BCK was an internal program, never meant for release, and as such was not guarenteed to work properly or at all, now I don't know about you, but there are people out there that would get all pissed off and even file lawsuits if a piece of software damaged their equipment or data ( a recent case in New-york supreme [or was it superior] {oh well} court held that the programmer and distributors of software can be held liable for loss of hardware or data if the program damages it. Also, since it is internal DEC and was never released to the public domain, distributing it IS SOFTWARE PIRACY, are you advocating piracy sir??? From: BILL MAYHEW The bottom line on the RX50-hub-ring dispute seemed to be, "If you use them consistently, or consistently don't use them, you're probably OK." It was switching back and forth that led to grief. Evidently the clamping mechanism in the RX50 drive was not designed for hub rings; using the rings, over time, made it lose its grip on non-ringed diskettes, but if you always used hub-ringed diskettes, you were OK. As a general rule, of course... - --- QM v1.00 * Origin: Still Servicing the Rainbow - Maybee Forever (1:101/1.0) ------------------------------ Date: 07-03-90 (23:04) To: BILL HLIWA Subject: RE: CACHE PROGRAM From: BILL MAYHEW Re: sharing Suitable Solutions' software freely: I would say NO. The company still exists; it is simply out of the Rainbow business, and the principals are taking some time off to identify what they want to do next. I'll post 'em a message though to see what they have to say about this. - -Bill - --- QM v1.00 * Origin: Still Servicing the Rainbow - Maybee Forever (1:101/1.0) ------------------------------ Date: 07-03-90 (23:07) To: GEORGE THEALL Subject: RE: IBM PC FLOPPIES From: BILL MAYHEW I believe the issue with formatting 1.44Mb 3.5" floppies at 720K is a little different than the HD vs. DD issue. The geometry of the disk layout is different in the 3.5" situation, which is not the case in the 5.25" instance. - --- QM v1.00 * Origin: Still Servicing the Rainbow - Maybee Forever (1:101/1.0) ------------------------------ Date: 07-04-90 (07:30) To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: MICKEY MOUSE From: SARAH JONES Hi Frank I assume that if your solution worked there would be heavier Bail Spring on the market to do the job. I have the feeling that the real problem is in the sprockets themselves. They don't seem to be deep enough and the plastic spring that hold the paper against them seem to have come out of 1960 Japan. FLIMSY ! Hope some other charcter from Walt Disney World come up with the real solution. Thanks for trying anyway.
