Your best bet is to look on the buliteen boards at the school. People are always selling computers to get rid of them or to upgrade. Software with manuals usually come included which is nice. Here in Texas you can pick up an XT for about $450.00 with a 20 meg hard drive if you wait for the right deal. A 286 AT may cost $900.00-1500.00 depending upon what brand it is. If he wants to buy a new computer there is a company called CompuAdd that is pretty reasonable if you buy a complete system. Try to steer away from their individual products though.
