I've got a copy of SUM II that sits on my shelf most of the time. All I really use it for is to optimize my hard disk from time to time. (I didn't by it for backups. I got it free with a hard drive.) I looked at how Mac Tools handled disk optimization. I was really put off by the map I got of disk usage (maybe it's better in color?). SUM II's map seemed more understandable to me. I then tried Mac Tools' backup function to an Apple 40SC. Normally I use Apple's backup software since it's simple and it does what I want. I backed up my disk twice to compare their speeds. Apple's backed my 40 meg drive (about 75% full) in roughly 37 minutes. Mac Tools took about an hour (with data compression turned off and nothing else running under multifinder). Yeesh! For my purposes I guess I'll stick to Apple's software. Haven't dinked with any of the other features since I never used them in SUM II and don't see a need to start. My needs are simple. SUM II does everything I want and it seems easier to use, and the price was right (free)! Mac Tools seems OK, but it is just barely worth the $25 and the long wait.
