The store is now expanding and wants to operate more than one mac to handle customer rentals and purchases. The problem is that putting 4D into multi-user mode slows things down quite a bit. The database itself (data) is getting rather large > 20MB and I'm concerned that the performance is simply going to be unbearable. So, I'm soliciting information about alternative databases that are better suited for multi-user applications and that are sophisticated enough that porting the application won't be a major headache.
