Yes, HyperCard 2.0 requires 6.0.5 -- it will not launch under 6.0.3, 
guaranteed.

Mixed reactions to this -- a lot has happened in system software between 
those versions. Chances are pretty high that you should (have to) upgrade 
some of your applications to their latest versions. I think you should pin 
down your dealer and get him/her to clearly state all the problems 
incurred by upgrading to 6.0.5 -- seems like the dealer is trying to pull 
a fast one on you.
