|core dump due to a bug in gcc if compiled with the options
|-O -fstrength-reduce.

This is a known bug in gcc 1.37; it will only appear if both -O and
-fstrength-reduce are specified (ie remove the -f and it works).  It
was reported to GNU quite some time ago.  This bug does not exist in
gcc 1.36.
