There are a number of them starting to come on the market at more useful prices (still high) around $10 CDN (depending on quantities). The blue LED that I mentioned is from Marktech, 5 Hemlock Street, Latham New York, USA (12110). Phone lines: voice # 518-786-6591, fax # 518-786- 6599. The part numbers are MT1018D-BL (Diffused) and MT1018-BL (Clear). Spec's are: Silicon Carbide, 470nm peak wavelength, Vf= 2.9 to 4.0 volts at 50mA for a luminous intensity of 10mcd with a viewing half-angle of 7 degrees. Hope this help. Cheers.
