The Lattice GAL Data Book 1990 describes a In-system Programmable Generic Array. Apparently the device has on-chip circuitry to generate the programming control signals from the normal 5-volt supply. The device is the ispGAL16Z8. If any are interested the Programmers Guide can be obtained from Lattice.
