Keywords: GPI Novell Message-ID: Date: 14 Jul 90 17:56:04 GMT Sender: news@cica.cica.indiana.edu Distribution: comp Lines: 25 One of out Novell fileservers is experiencing intermittent crashes--all of them w/ the GPI message and instructions to re-boot the system. According to the Novell manual System Messages, the typical cause is memory failure in the server, poor power line conditioning, or a corrupted OS. To date: i have re-gened a new OS and swapped all of the memory. The server is attached to a Viteq 386 series UPS. There is another server running off of the same UPS and it does not crash, so I'm guessing that it is not a power problem. The big question: what IS causing the crashes? BTW, the crashes may occur several days apart and then there maybe several in a row followed by another day or two of normal activity. this has been going on for 2+ weeks. Anybody, have any ideas? hints? The server is an IBM Model 80-311; 600 Mb SCSI Wren drive; Future Domain MCS-350 controller; 6-10 Mbs of RAM (using an IBM expansion card); Adv. 2.15c; BICC IsoLink PS2 controller card. -- ************************************************************************** * Steve Gribble (812) 855-9172 gribble@cica.cica.indiana.edu * Systems Manager, Inst. of Social Research swg@iumail.ucs.indiana.edu * Dept. of Sociology, Indiana University gribble@iubacs
