This is because most to the system/network people are domain absolutists by religion but realize that what is "correct" also need to be practical. Hense a willingness to help uucp sites. I expect that the OSU/CIS would continue the services that Karl has been offering, even if Karl left. Karl's co-workers are great people and believe in what Karl is doing. I expect that even if the existing staff didn't have time to keep up with all Karl was doing, they would permit some trusted member of the community to maintain the uucp stuff Karl had been doing. In the past OSU/CIS has permitted "guest" super-users who kept useful things running. If fact, Karl was at one time one of those "guest" super-users. I am personally happy that Karl is doing the work now. He has an already abused nameserver, and a pyramid whose sole purpose in life is to do uucp things and be the compuserve mail gateway. If for some unknown reason OSU/CIS had to get out of the buisness of free MX connections, there are a number of site around OSU, including mine, that would be willing to pick up the slack.
