Here's one for the gurus out there. I recently tried to boot my trusty ol' A1000 and was greeted with the following series of sights and sounds (and how long they last) at powerup: grey screen, ~7s (normal) green screen + moving black wedge shaped patterns, ~3s green screen, ~3s green screen + smaller moving black wedges, ~3s green screen + all 3 floppies gronking + black flashes, ~20s flash of blue which fades immediately to... black screen, ~6s blue screen, ~7s black screen + short, white, moving horizontal lines, ~2s black screen + gronking floppies (all 3 of em), ~30s black screen + moving white lines (see above) + steady tone similar to emergency broadcast test tones, ~2s black screen. The black screens might actually be 'blank' screens, and there were a few little blips and beeps coming out of the speaker at various times. The system consists of: A1000, 68010, 2.5M RAM, 2 ext. floppies, A-Time clock, Future Sound digitizer, 1080 monitor. I have tried powering up with various combinations of the external stuff unplugged, and get very little variation in the above sequence of abnormalities. I would be grateful for any help in figuring out what is ailing my little 'female friend'. If this looks too expensive, I might soon be selling a wide assortment of A1000 replacement parts, peripherals, and software. Thanks in advance, -matt (nelson@psroot.ps.uci.edu)
