A good magazine to look in is Keyboard or MIX and look for the ad called MIX
bookshelf.  The number is a 800 -toll free phone number.
  
Another good place to call is MIDI WORLD NETWORK (213) 841-0347 (2400 baud ...
they have a MIDI developer's forem that might be able to give you some more
insight).  Also another good place to call is CODEHEAD software (213) 461-2095
(2400 baud).  The above locations should provide you with many ideas to takle 
your problem.  Another book you might want to take a look at is introduction
to MIDI PROGRAMMING (ATARI ST) by Abacus Software.
