I have a Samsung 12" monochrome VGA monitor.

Some applications like qd.com (QDisk) allows one to change the foreground
colors for more contrast.

My problem is that I can't change the background color so that I may see the
file directory listing, therefore the program is no use for me.

Can anyone suggest a solution?  A program or opening the case?
