I was If you ftp'd everything from MIT you should have gotten the mit/config/README file, and the source for "Configuration Management in the X Window System" (by Jim Fulton), at least. The former must be read to be able to actually use the stuff, the latter is an overview of the goals that MIT was trying to accomplish with imake. It's also a must-read, though for different reasons. What's wrong with > imake.tmpl? This sounds like a mismatch between R3 tools and R4 tools. imake.template is used in R3, Imake.tmpl in R4, I believe. The difference in structure of the configuration files between the two versions is significant, the latter being much more highly developed and configurable than the former.
