i think the problem is that this issue has been presented (initially by
karsh) in a rather inflammatory fashion.  another aggravation (at least
to me) is that this is comp.arch and not (despite karsh)

while we can all skip articles we find inappropriate it is annoying when
folks continue to act in perhaps a rude fashion.  i fear we have drifted
rather far from comp.arch.
